A Ghanaian on death row in Indonesia is due to be executed in days, officials have served notice.
Martin Anderson lost his appeal on
Wednesday at the Supreme Court and could be executed alongside nine
other foreign drug convicts.
Some diplomats have confirmed to the BBC that
they had been told to go to the island prison of Nusakambangan on
Saturday, a request which could suggest the executions are imminent.
An execution date has not been set - convicts must be given 72-hour notice.
The prisoners facing execution include
people from Brazil, France, Nigeria and two Australians Andrew Chan and
Myuran Sukumaran. The 10th death row prisoner, Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso
from the Philippines, was being transferred to Nusakambangan prison on
Friday.
“We have been told to be there on Saturday,”
an unnamed diplomat told Reuters news agency. “We still don't know when
the actual date of execution will happen but we expect that it will be
in days.”
Anderson was sentenced to death by a Jakarta court in June 2004 for possessing 50 grams of heroin.
