Tema
Police has arrested a 48-year old evangelist, Cindy Naa Adolley Brown
for allegedly defrauding over 225 people in a protocol visa connection
to United States.
She was arrested on Saturday after a private
investigator, Malvrick S. Lomotey and some other victims reported her at
the Community 8 police station. Victims paid between GH¢500.00 and
GH¢6,000.00 for processing of their documents among other charges from
2013 to 2015.
Although a Nigerian and four Togolese pulled out,
the Ghanaians trusted Cindy Brown until she gave them refusal letters
purported to have been issued by the American Embassy last Friday.
According to reports, she started the visa scam from January 2013 to
date. Cindy Brown has denied the allegations leveled against her
insisting that she is a staff at the American Embassy.
Some
victims who expressed their frustrations to Adom News have threatened to
take action against the Embassy since they have been implicated in the
scam. Meanwhile, some leaders who aided in the collection of the money
said until her arrest, they were not aware of the wicked acts.
Tema Community 1 Police Commander, Superintendent Ben Wonkyi who
confirmed the case to Adom News said the suspect has been remanded and
as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the American Embassy
has refuse to comment onthe issue but hinted it will on Friday, 27th
March, 2015 issue a statement to clear the air about any involvement in
the visa scam.
