I Tried To Save Student – Says Korle-Bu Robber

Emmanuel Aryee, the alleged robber who was said to have entered the students’ hostel of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra – whose actions compelled his victim to jump from the top floor of a two-storey building – says he tried to save the victim from falling.

The accused aka Kahn, yesterday told an Accra circuit court when he opened his defence in respect of the case that he held the left hand of the victim to prevent her from falling on the ground.

He said realizing that the lady (victim) had resolved to jump to the ground from her balcony, he shouted adding, “I was holding her left hand when she was hanging but she fell.”

Kahn, who was led in his defence by his counsel, George Asamaney, flatly denied the position of the prosecution that he attempted to rape the victim when she could not provide the GH¢1,500 he (Kahn) had demanded.

The accused said he agreed to the request by the victim to pray but she jumped to the ground in the process.

Inspector Martin Acheampong, cross-examining Kahn, said he (Kahn) entered the room of the victim with a knife in his hand with the intention to rob her.

The police officer told Kahn – who said he was a prayer warrior at the Korle-Bu branch of the Light House Chapel – that what he was telling the court was all a pack of lies intended to deceive the court.

The court has however, set May 19, 2015 for judgement.

Kahn is before the court for purportedly attempting to rape the final-year medical student after she had failed to give him GH¢1,500.

The accused person is alleged to have also robbed the victim of her Toshiba laptop and Samsung mobile phone.
